After successful careers as executives within the high tech industry, Innov8te’s founders, Mike and Elaine Mata, have dedicated the last four plus years to sharing their wealth of expertise and energies with both for-profit and non-profit organizations. Together they bring over 45 years of knowledge and experience within a high growth environment to help their clients define their business issues and to quickly realize near term results and long term solutions to their unique opportunities or challenges .
Mike brings 25 years of experience in the computer industry in executive roles for companies such as Hewlett-Packard Company, Compaq Computer Corp., BMC Software and IBM. Before retiring in 2003, Mike served as vice president of Global Accounts and Operations at Hewlett Packard. The Global Accounts organization served HP’s largest corporate accounts across all product and service offerings which represented $15B in annual revenues.
Prior to joining HP, Mike served as Compaq Computer Corporation's vice president and general manager of Worldwide Market Development and Partnerships. After joining Compaq in 1988, he served in many senior managerial capacities, including vice president of the Enterprise Solutions Division. He also held management roles in business development, commercial marketing, business planning, distribution strategy and major account marketing.
At Gateway Computer, Mike served as the vice president of e-commerce & business development and as vice president of marketing for Gateway Business. Prior to joining Gateway and Compaq, he served in sales and marketing management positions at BMC Software and IBM Corporation.
Mike holds a bachelor degree in business administration from Texas Christian University and an MBA from Indiana University.
In addition to his for-profit activities through Innov8te, LLC, Mike is also very involved with a number of local non-profit organizations. As a volunteer with SCORE (affiliate partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration), Mike provides no-cost counseling and advisory board services to start-ups and early stage firms. He has also contributed to the local SCORE chapter as vice chairman, chairman of the marketing committee and is responsible for the design and ongoing management of their internet presence. In addition, Mike is on the advisory board for the University of California, Irvine, Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and works with the Center to present the “Student to Startup” series of workshops. Mike was also founding board member of a local humane society and is a member of a city council park and public library expansion subcommittee.
Elaine spent over 10 years at Compaq Computer Corporation where she worked in a variety of senior marketing positions. Before retiring in 2001, she helped start Compaq's new workstation division as Director of Product Marketing, and then moved to Director of Marketing. In her role as Director of Marketing, Elaine was responsible for all product-related activities, including roadmap development, product planning and launch, pricing, and communication strategy and positioning. In addition, she was responsible for strategy and plans for the workstation division's vertical and segment marketing activities.
Previous to the formation of Compaq’s Workstation Division, Elaine spent 5 years in the world-wide marketing research department as an analyst, research manager, and finally, as acting director. During her tenure in the marketing research group, Elaine was responsible for a host of qualitative and quantitative research studies including product concept testing, product positioning and branding research, advertising concept research, new market attractiveness studies, and customer satisfaction research.
Before joining Compaq, Elaine spent 12 years in the healthcare profession as an R.N. in a variety of roles which included critical care nurse educator, emergency room head nurse, ICU, and cardiac surgery. She has an undergraduate degree in Nursing from Edgecliff College (Xavier University), and an MBA from Rice University.
Elaine has also been involved in her community through her contributions to a charity which supports the local pro-humane animal shelter though funding and volunteer staffing. Her assistance has included volunteering as co-treasurer, board member, annual fundraiser gala co-chair and as a member of the care and evaluation committee which oversees all medical care. Elaine has also volunteered as an adult literacy trainer with the Orange County Public Library and as a tutor at a local elementary school.
